Why does employee engagement matter?

Happy employees are the reason for happy customers!

Employee engagement has become a focal point in today’s workforce because companies are finally beginning to grasp that in order to keep your customers happy, you need to have happy, engaged employees. But, according to research by Gallup, only 33% of employees in the USA were engaged in, involved in, enthusiastic about and committed to their workplace.

On the other hand, employee disengagement costs the USA alone over $500 billion annually. However, despite this scary number, the same study reveals that employee engagement increased by only 3% in the past 5 years.

There is no magic formula for a great company culture. The key is just to treat your staff how you would like to be treated.

Engaging your employees effectively in your organization can be done in several ways, by implementing:

  1. Right onboarding program for your employees solves half the problem for disengaged employees. It lays the right foundation. Employees who go through a structured onboarding are 58% more likely to be with the organization for more than three years on an average.
  2. Frequent Feedbacks with employees is one way which is crucial for the improvement of employee performance and aligning it with company's goals, leading to growth.
  3. Employee Benefits and Perks helps them understand their work is appreciated and makes them feel motivated to perform better.
  4. Transparency is directly proportional to the motivation of employees to work harder towards company's goals. Results from the Harvard Business review's employee engagement survey reveals that 70% of people surveyed say that they are most engaged when senior leadership continually updates and communicates company strategy.
  5. Personal Growth opportunities helps employees feel valuable and important to the company and team.
  6. Constant recognition is one of the ways to recognize and appreciate employees for their hard work. It motivates them to continue to do a good job for their company.

Satisfied employees play a key role in your organization, as ambassadors of the company. They encourage other high performing individuals to join your company, and they are walking ambassadors for your business.
